Here's the Good News: Gen Z Is Rock Solid

"There is nothing so pitiful as a young cynic because he has gone from knowing nothing to believing nothing." -Maya Angelou

There is hope. A new generation is emerging in America and these young people are impressive.

While 2020 has had its share of challenges, for me, the emergence of a handful of young people in my professional life has made a major impact and huge difference.

Intelligence, focus, and humility don’t often come early in one’s career, but I keep seeing it in people under 25 years old—and I dig it.

In related news, Gen Z also has its own language. Let’s tune in and learn some new terms.

Wig Snatched: An impressive or unimpressive appearance or act

Yahurrd?: Are you aware?

Finesse: To steal

Hop Off: Mind your own business

Run That: To start or to take

Smacks: A tasty treat

Stay up: You will be okay

Take the L: Make a sacrifice

Now, let’s use the new terms in new sentences: Are you going to run that or just stand there?

Get some smacks and take the L.

Stay up, friend.

Play It Where It Lies

Disc golf, like traditional golf, requires skills, practice, and patience.

The one thing you know for sure is you will mess up. The only question in golf and business and life is how well you recover.

Wind In Bonehook’s Sails

Three years ago, Bonehook—the agency I founded in January 2010—lost our two biggest clients in the span of 30 days. That wiped out more than 80 percent of the agency’s income and forced a reinvention of the firm.

We sold our house, moved to Austin, tightened our focus, fine-tuned our processes, learned new things, met new people, and then we got lucky.

Last August, a prospective client reached out through the Contact page at davidburn.com. That someone has become a phenomenal new client in the high tech business-to-business sector.

More news on this front next month, when we launch their new eCommerce website.

Ad Chatter—The Podcast

My friend and colleague, Dan Goldgeier, started a podcast last summer. It is called Ad Chatter and we’re listed on all the major listening platforms.

We dropped a new episode, our 10th, yesterday. If you want to hear a short show about today’s advertising industry achievements and challenges, tune in and let me know what you think.
